Lisbon.com is an editorial platform operated by Lisbon Media, a company incorporated in the European Union.
These Contributor Terms apply when you submit an article, story, photograph, illustration, video, or other editorial material to Lisbon.com for possible publication.
They supplement the general Lisbon.com Terms & Conditions. If there is any conflict between these Contributor Terms and the general Terms & Conditions in relation to an editorial contribution, these Contributor Terms will apply.
1. You Keep Ownership of Your Work
You retain the copyright and ownership of the original material you contribute to Lisbon.com.
Unless we agree otherwise in writing, your contribution is non-exclusive. You remain free to publish, reuse, or license your work elsewhere.
2. Submitting Work for Consideration
Submitting material to Lisbon.com does not guarantee publication.
When you submit a contribution, you give Lisbon Media permission to receive, store, review, and make proposed editorial changes to the material for the purpose of considering it for publication.
You may withdraw a contribution before it is published by contacting us.
If we decide not to publish your contribution, we will not use it publicly unless you separately give us permission to do so.
3. Licence if Your Contribution Is Published
If Lisbon.com accepts your contribution for publication, you grant Lisbon Media a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual licence to use the accepted contribution in connection with Lisbon.com and its editorial, archival, and promotional activities.
This includes the right to:
- publish, reproduce, display, and distribute the contribution on Lisbon.com;
- keep the published contribution available as part of the Lisbon.com archive;
- publish excerpts, quotations, headlines, photographs, and other portions of the contribution;
- promote the contribution through Lisbon.com’s social media accounts, newsletters, emails, and other communication channels;
- adapt the contribution for different formats, devices, and platforms;
- resize, crop, compress, format, or otherwise make reasonable technical adjustments to photographs and other visual material;
- create thumbnails, previews, social media slides, excerpts, or other promotional versions;
- translate the contribution or portions of it;
- permit service providers used by Lisbon Media, such as hosting providers, newsletter platforms, social media platforms, and technical suppliers, to process or display the contribution where necessary to provide these services.
This licence does not transfer ownership of your contribution to Lisbon Media.
Lisbon Media will not sell or license your contribution as standalone editorial content to an unrelated third party without your permission.
4. Editorial Changes
Lisbon.com may edit contributions for spelling, grammar, clarity, length, structure, formatting, consistency, headlines, captions, and editorial style.
We may also select, crop, arrange, or omit photographs and other visual material.
We will take reasonable care to preserve the meaning and character of your contribution.
Where we believe an edit materially changes the meaning or substance of your work, we will normally give you an opportunity to review the relevant changes before publication.
Lisbon Media retains final editorial discretion over:
- whether a contribution is published;
- publication timing;
- headlines and subtitles;
- layout and presentation;
- photographs and illustrations;
- excerpts and quotations used for promotion;
- categorisation and placement on Lisbon.com.
Nothing in these Contributor Terms is intended to limit moral rights or other rights that cannot lawfully be waived or restricted.
5. Attribution
Unless otherwise agreed, Lisbon.com will credit you using the name or pseudonym agreed with you.
You give Lisbon Media permission to use the following information in connection with your contribution:
- your name or pseudonym;
- biography;
- profile photograph;
- professional or personal website;
- relevant social media usernames or links.
6. Your Responsibilities
By submitting material to Lisbon.com, you confirm that:
- you created the material or have all necessary rights and permissions to submit it;
- the contribution does not knowingly infringe another person’s copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights;
- the contribution is not plagiarised;
- factual statements presented as facts are, to the best of your knowledge, accurate and made in good faith;
- the contribution is not knowingly defamatory, fraudulent, or unlawful;
- you have disclosed any relevant sponsorship, payment, commercial relationship, free accommodation, free products, gifts, or other material interest related to the contribution;
- the contribution does not contain undisclosed advertising or paid placement.
If any part of your contribution was created by or belongs to another person, you must tell us before publication and provide any relevant attribution or licensing information.
7. Photographs and Other Visual Material
When you submit photographs, illustrations, videos, or other visual material, you confirm that you own the material or have the necessary permission to allow Lisbon.com to use it under these terms.
You must inform us of any:
- photographer or creator credits;
- licence requirements;
- restrictions on use;
- third-party ownership;
- other conditions attached to the material.
Where legally required, you are responsible for obtaining appropriate permission from identifiable people appearing in material you submit.
Particular care should be taken with photographs or material involving children.
Lisbon Media may decline to publish visual material where ownership, permissions, or usage rights are unclear.
8. Payment
Unless Lisbon Media and the contributor agree otherwise in writing before publication, contributions are unpaid.
Publication does not create any entitlement to royalties, licence fees, or other compensation.
If a contribution is commissioned on a paid basis, the payment arrangement will be agreed separately in writing.
9. Corrections, Updates and Removal
Lisbon Media may correct, update, moderate, unpublish, or remove a contribution at its discretion.
If you believe something in your published contribution is inaccurate, outdated, or should be reconsidered, you may contact us at any time.
We will consider reasonable correction, update, or removal requests in good faith.
Because published contributions form part of Lisbon.com’s editorial archive, publication does not automatically create a right to require removal of the contribution, except where applicable law provides otherwise.
10. Promotion and Social Media
Lisbon.com may promote published contributions through social media, newsletters, and other channels.
We may tag or mention contributors and relevant organisations where appropriate.
Where available, we may also invite contributors to participate as collaborators on social media posts. Acceptance of such invitations is entirely optional.
Contributors are not required to promote or share their published contribution unless this has been separately agreed in writing.
11. No Guarantee of Publication
Submission of a contribution does not create an obligation for Lisbon Media to publish it.
Lisbon Media may decide not to publish a contribution for editorial, legal, technical, commercial, or other reasons.
We are not required to provide a reason for declining a submission.
12. Personal Information
Personal information provided in connection with a contribution may be used for editorial, administrative, publication, and promotional purposes associated with Lisbon.com.
Personal information is otherwise handled in accordance with the Lisbon.com Privacy Policy.
13. Governing Law
These Contributor Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Estonia.
Any disputes relating to these Contributor Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Estonian courts, subject to any rights or protections that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable law.
14. Agreement to These Terms
Before submitting a full contribution for publication, you should read these Contributor Terms together with the general Lisbon.com Terms & Conditions.
By submitting a contribution after agreeing to these terms, you confirm that you have read and accepted them.
Where a contribution has multiple authors, photographers, or other rights holders, each relevant person must agree to these terms, unless one person has the legal authority to act on behalf of the others.
If we agree to different terms for a particular contribution, those terms must be confirmed in writing.
